The 2025 Organize Emails Challenge

Feel like no matter what you try, you just cannot organize emails in your inbox?

You’re not alone!

The good news is that inbox zero isn't the only measure of success when it comes to streamlining your emails.

But you don’t want a chaotic, unpredictable, messy inbox either.

The Official “Clean Up Old Emails” Challenge

Here's what you're going to do.

1. Decide on a rule that separates emails that need to be kept indefinitely from emails you can delete. (This will depend on your unique clients, type of work, and any legal requirements that apply.)

2. Create an “Archived” folder in your inbox if you don't have one.

3. Set a timer for 15 minutes.

4. Start sorting through all old emails (anything from more than 2 weeks ago) in your inbox and any additional folders you use, and either:

  • Delete the email if it doesn't meet the archive rule

  • Archive the email if it needs to be kept

  • Mark it as unread and move it to your inbox if it needs a reply

The goal is to delete, archive, or flag every email in your inbox and email folders! If this takes more than 15 minutes, schedule more clean-up sessions throughout your week until you're done.
